Most people think that watching a director on set is enough to understand their creative vision.
It’s not.

Even if you’re standing right next to them…
Watching every move, every take…
You’re still only seeing the surface.

Because the real work happens before the cameras roll.
In pre-production.
That’s where a director’s vision is formed—shaped—sharpened.

And most directors?
They guard that vision like it’s a secret recipe.
Locked away. Hidden from the crew.
And certainly never shared with outsiders.

But I’m not most directors.

I believe vision should be shared.
Not only with Heads of Department, but with the entire team.

On my latest film Breaking Cover, I printed my 70+ page Director’s Vision and hung it in every office in the studio.
Everyone—regardless of hierarchy—was immersed in the tone, themes, visuals, and emotional core of the story.

And it worked.

Legendary cinematographer Andrzej Sekuła (Pulp Fiction, American Psycho) told me it was a treat to work with me
because my vision was so clear, every creative decision became simple and focused.
We aligned quickly and instinctively, and that alignment powered the entire production.
